What a broken spring can look and sound like
A torsion spring can fail suddenly, sometimes with a loud bang. Afterward, the door may stay closed, lift only a little, or feel dramatically heavier because the opener no longer has the spring system's counterbalancing help.
What not to do
- Do not keep running the opener against a door that will not lift.
- Do not loosen set screws or winding hardware.
- Do not pull or re-route connected cables.
- Do not assume the door is safe to lift because the opener release can be pulled.
If these signs match your situation, go to spring repair.
