The type of noise matters
A garage door has many moving contact points, so “noisy” can describe different conditions. A new scrape, pop, grind, rattle, or squeal is more useful diagnostically than noise alone.
| Noise or behavior | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Grinding or rough rolling | Rollers, track condition, debris, bearing wear |
| Rattle | Loose non-tensioned hardware, panels, opener rail |
| Scrape at one location | Track alignment, roller path, panel contact |
| Pop or bang | Spring/counterbalance system; stop and inspect |
